Monotypes

Monotypes are a lot of fun to do. I did most of mine on a gelatin plate. I made some of the plates I use, and I have a few commercial ones. A really handy thing about gelatin plates is that you don’t need a press, so the process is fast and flowing. You can also offset onto the plate. I have offset from woodblocks that I have carved, as well as etched acrylic plates.

The mountains are offset from a carving I did of the Alborz mountains north of Tehran, where I once lived. Camels and wolf/coyote are from carved linoleum stamps.

Monoprints

These are monoprints, that is, a common element is reused. The first photo is a direct print from the plate using a press. The two colored prints involve offsetting from the acrylic plate onto a gelatin plate. You can also see how I set up to print.
